First Carbon Fiber

After seeing David's (a.k.a. theidlemind), post "carbon fiber how-to", I decided to give it a try. I ordered a small assortment of carbon fiber and carbon fiber/fiberglass sleeves and my wife picked out this color (after complaining that it looked like a box of snakes).

I was impatient to try it, so I simply painted the tube, glued on the sleeve, and then did a CA buildup. I guess I'll just have to find another excuse to break out the casting resins.

Pretty cool! How layers of CA did you need to put on this one? Is it completely smooth, as if it was PR cast?

Was it a carbon sleeve, or from a flat sheet? I can't see a join anywhere if it was a flat sheet!

I didn't count the layers - probably somewhere around 25. I built the blank up to just over 0.500" diameter and then turned it back down to 0.475". After sanding and polishing, it is completely smooth and indistinguishable from cast.
