First 360 Herringbone

Hello All, It's been awhile since I've been on here, had some motor issues with my Jet 1014 mini lathe and trying to acquire accessories for the shopsmith I rebuilt. Plus I've been out of commission since the end of September for a bicep tendon reattachment surgery. So for my first pen to celebrate my return to turning, I chose a Magnetic Graduate with maple as the base and mahogany that I salvaged from a pallet that I nabbed from work.

Got to looking at this over the weekend, and wasn't happy with the coating results so popped apart and remanded and redid the ca finish. Turned out better, pardon the poor quality pictures, but all I had was my iPhone at the time.

I remember looking at the tutorial several years ago. At the time I thought it looked really hard. I think I was right. But I think it might be a good winter pen project to consider.

Having made numerous herringbone design pens I can appreciate the attention paid to good fit. Nicely executed. Mahogany from a pallet?
