Other then a few closed end slimlines this is my first attempt at a modified pen. To eliminate the slight gap between the stock diplomat tube and the front cone (nib?) I substituted a Jr gent tube (which fit perfectly) and used the Diplomat tube to make the finial twist. Center band is nickel silver sheet that I cut to size and soldered together with silver solder. Pen is longer than I wanted but I couldn't figure out a way to make it any shorter. Refills can be switched by unscrewing the finial as the lower tube is epoxied to the cone and a couple of bushings.

Nice design. I would like to see it with a burl wood I bet that longer section would look great. Also the short section would lend itself nicely to using a contrasting material. You could really do a lot with this design. I would use this if it were available as a hardware set because of its versatility. Great pen and design.
