I love walnut but have always had problems with the finish. I think I finally got one right.
This is actually polycrylic satin that MM to a nice shine. Only time will tell if it lasts.

Nice looking pen. I purchased some Polyacrylic and used it to stabilize some cross cut spalted maple. When I got down to the final shape, I did not have to sand in any CA and dust as it was smooth as a baby's backside. You will have to let us know how it stands up as a finish. I used CA to finish over the Polyacrylic.

Keep us posted on the how the finish holds up. I have had problems with Walnut as well when it comes to soaking up wax finishes. I made one for my wife that is about as dull as it gets. Of course I am sure the cranberry juice she spilled on it didnt help. ( No respect I tell ya !! )
