Since my oldest (17yo) lives with my ex, I only get to see him a few weeks out of the year. I was fortunate to have him for about ten days over Christmas break. He's a great kid, but if it ain't a girl, a video game, or a skateboard, he shows little interest . So, I stood him in front of the lathe and told him we'd make a pen for his girlfriend . He drilled, turned, sanded, and assembled with little more than a cursory explanation, while I did the CA finish for him. The first one we did was a Buckeye Burl (thanks, Russell!). Once the pen was complete, I was SURE I saw a spark of excitement cross his face...lol. Sure enough, he asked if we could do another, so I consider that "mission accomplished!" The second is Marblewood....I had a great time doing this with him, and I think they both turned out great....

I know the pics are grainy, but all I have is the camera on my cell phone (until I can convince "Lipstick 6" to let me use hers...lol).

Wishing you all a great New Year!

Best,
Mike
