I finished up another Gearshift order today, and a couple of Bolt Actions for the Foot specialist who is helping heal my torn tendon. All with CA finish. Here they are:

I am new to this. And I must say looking at this type of work scares me. I want to learn how to make quality pens like this. I daydream (may sound pathetic) about sitting in my own shop making pens and other things for people and able to make enough money to support myself. I dont want to be rich just enough so I can eat, buy woodworking supplies and so on.

How do you learn this?

I'm fairly new as well, having just started this hobby about a year ago. Lots of trial and error, lots of reading here on the IAP, and watching others on YouTube. You'll be surprised how quickly you advance.

Prior to a year ago, I'd never touched a lathe, so my turning experience was nill. I started with traditional tools, but quickly switched to EasyWood carbide for 90% of my work. That single change probably allowed the quickest progress. That, and learning how to do a good CA finish!

You're local to me, just down the road, so let me know if I can answer any questions.
