Design opportunity. I happened to have both solid white and solid black PR blocks in the shop for just these occasions. I think they recovered well enough.

I think that since you were already working with predominantly black and then white in the feather blanks, the "save" to go with replacement barrels using the solid black, then solid white was not only the appropriate choice, but also a choice that works well from a design standpoint. Both of the "saved" pens look as though that were the plan all along. I am glad for you, and you have two very nicely finished pens as a result.

Thanks all.

Mark, the feathers were not the repair but rather the other halves that didn't self destruct. Instead of having both upper and lower as feathers, I paired them up with solids to finish out the other half of the pen. I wish I were that good to claim to be able to repair feathers like that.
