Here's a new one on me... I had a college professor pick up one of my cigar pens and ask me if I made any "fat" pens. Well, color me confused... I always thought that the cigars were pretty fat, but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, here's what I came up with to complete his order. Sorry about the pic quality, it's just a scan. It's Big Leaf Maple burl, and it had a small bit of spalting that you can JUST see with the scan pic. The finish is BLO/CA followed up with Carnauba on the buffing wheel. The pic doesn't do this one justice.

Nice looking pen even if it is FAT. I have had several request for fat pens. Many people with Parkinson's Disease and Arthritis have trouble gripping a small pen. So I have turn a few different sizes then go see what works and go from there.

Dave, I would not have thought of turning a shape like that either! You managed to make a very nice but unusual pen. It looks real good. Your customer should be very pleased. Congrats !
