I was really impressed by the Don Ward/Ken Nelsen collaboration, so I thought I would show my Family Crest engraved in Olive wood.
I used an Epilog laser with a rotary device for the engraving.

That's crazy! Did the laser leave that rough "tearout"? Absolutely incredible what those things can do. Almost looks like you sandblasted it.

I love them.

Holy Smokes that is Awesome!!

Do you turn the pen while its being ingraved or is it all automated? Do you hold a little lazer in one hand and pen in the other and free hand this? I thought scrimshaw was pretty cool but this tops the chart. Just wondering how you do it.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
To spiritwoodturner - The wood grain has a real impact. Wood selection is critical. You don't want the softer areas to go too deep. I like the results I get with Olivewood.
To Hillbilly - Automated, but tricky. Artwork prep, fixturing, wood selection, and a whole lot of practice are the keys

Thanks Chris.

I've carved a fair amount of wood myself in days gone by, so I had a look in mind, that is why I tried to create a scooped out appearence for the backrground.
