While waiting for the patina paint to dry on the jewelry box, I rummaged around in my stash of blanks and I found some red tortoise shell. I decided to use it on an Emperor.

I painted the tubes black and red and did not reverse paint the blank. In the sunlight it really has a great look.

C & C welcome.

Mike, thanks for the kind words. Looking forward to seeing some of your latest work.

Jim, thank you, I appreciate it.

Tattooed Turner, thank you for the compliment. Lots of sanding and buffing!

JP, thank you!

Charlie, you're making me blush:embarrassed:

Herb, good question. I always thought it was just a design in plastic, but looking it up on Wikipedia, I found that it used to be made from Hawksbill sea turtle shells until 1973, when the Hawksbill turtle was put on the endangered species list and the trade of tortoise shell was banned worldwide under CITES. Since then, it is all imitation tortoise shell.:turtle:

Brian, I appreciate your compliments on both the photography and the pen.

DE, thank you! It is a great material to work with. I also found a piece of a lighter colored tortoise shell blank, almost amber in color. I plan to try that one this week. We'll see how it comes out.

Here's one for you - :coffee:
