I brought several small pieces of wood home from our recent trip to Croatia [Istrian peninsula]. The elm was procured from a local wood shop, basically cutoffs. The magnolia is from a tree that had to be cut down because the roots were causing damage to the hospital next to the park. My wife remembers the tree when she was in school across the street from the park back in the 1960s. When it was cut, our friend managed to get a 10' length of the trunks, and had it cut into boards at a local sawmill. It has been drying for two years in a shed.
The grain stands out in the elm. It was finished with walnut oil & shellac.
The magnolia has the same finish, but the grain is more subtle; it's almost translucent.
The components are from the Rhodium Jr Gents II.
