Elk antler on a Monet. This was a pain to seal, very porous. It took about 10 coats of ca, cleaned up with a skew re-sanded to 1000 grit another 10 coats of ca medium, micro mesh to 12000. The first picture has the finished pen inserted into what is left after turning two pens (only one pen is shown, The antler was purchased at the pet store, originally sold as a dog chew. My Boxer was quite upset, he thought it was for him.

I find a wide degree of color variation in whitetail antler. When you get down to the marrow and fill with CA it brings a lot of color out. I imagine the marrow is much larger in an elk antler, since it is larger in diameter.

Great pen, btw.
