This is the pen I entered in the Tube on Casting contest. I am not sure what kit it was as there were no markings on the bag. Only modifacation I made to the original kit was to loose the large center band and replace it with a narrow gold ring. The pen itself was made by drilling, tubeing, and turning a pair of maple dowels down to a little smaller than my finished diameter. Next I applied the broken egg shells that I had prepared by soaking in bleach overnight, and set the blanks aside to dry for 24 hours. Soaking removes any bacteria that may remain after hard boiling, and whitens the shells. I filed and sanded any rough spots on the blanks, and used alcohol inks to achieve the color I wanted. Lightly sanded again to bring back some variants in tones. Cast my blanks in resin and turned to finished size, sanded, and polished with One-Step. I am not a photo nut, so the pics really do not do justice to the pen's finish. Looks like the Tortoise Shell from the old pens. Jim S
