I got an order for a magnum bolt action pen, and the customer wondered if it was possible to dye zebrawood red because he wanted a red & black pen. I tried food coloring, and here are the results...

Thanks for all your comments, guys!

Chris, what was your process for using the food dye and how much?

I tried rubbing the food coloring on with a paper towel, but I ended up leaving the turned blank in a mixture of food coloring and water overnight because it wasn't getting very dark. I don't think it made much of a difference in color, though. I don't think zebrawood is a very good wood to dye, either. It's almost too dense.

Nice work on the dye job. It sure changed the appearance of that zebra wood. Made a very nice looking pen.
