Finished this one up for an order today. A few new challenges on this one but I'm quite happy with the end result.

Alumilite and Ebonite with a JoWo #6 nib.

Actually what I find funny in this whole thing is that the threads between the cap finial and the cap where the clip is are 12mm which is my normal cap to body thread. Puts the overall width into perspective.

Still a very comfortable pen though.

I should also have asked: what cap to body thread size, and what section to body thread size ? I am getting to the point where I will be doing a kitless FP so am interested to know what taps/dies to buy. Thanks

This one is 14 mm cap to body, 10 mm section to body 9 mm for the rear finial and 12 mm for the cap finial.

My normal pens are 12 mm cap to body, 10 mm section to body and 8 mm for finials.

Yeah we did. Once I did the math to figure out the size I needed for the tenon and finished cap size, it was cake. Just split the difference. But I was also trying to work with the tapped piece we did when you were over instead of just starting it from scratch. Once I resigned to starting from scratch, it was pretty easy.

I knew the interior dimensions and my target exterior diameter and worked it backwards from there. I ended up with a .625" tenon on the solid stock that was cut a bit long. Then I cut 2 metal rings and 2 matching alumilite rings on the metal lathe and just stacked them up on the tenon with epoxy. Each if the 3 inner most rings is 2.4 mm and the last ring was left long for trimming.

Then I was just able to trim it to length, drill and thread as normal leaving an unbroken interior for support and just enough thickness on the bands to get the job done. I actually overshot my target diameter on the cap, but it worked out well in the end.

For those who inquire about packaging a pen to send, this is a simple way that I use for my higher price point pens. It's not perfect, but it does the job for now short of paying for customized foil printed boxes.

There is also a small cloth included for caring for the pen (a re-purposed eyeglass wipe)
