I bought a variety bag of blanks from Woodcraft but none of the blanks were labeled so it took me a little bit determine what kind of wood I had here. I believe that it is Black Palm but please correct me if I am wrong. I am not the greatest at figuring out the different species of wood. All comments are welcome.

In case you can't tell, my photography skills need some work.

Jim

Jim, that is definitely black palm. I bought a piece just like that at WC, and made it into a hard stylus slimline that I use with my PDA. I hope you have good luck working it. That wood is one of the hardest ones I have turned, because it has a tendency to shred. I also had to use CA and wood dust to fill some of the inevitable tiny grain voids in it. However, it is one of the toughest woods I have dealt with, and I use mine every day.
