My two most recent efforts, Desert Ironwood and Sindora Burl, both on the Tycoon kit. Comments, jibes, outrageous opinions, lavish praise, all very much appreciated!

I really like the Desert Ironwood. I'm going to get me some of that one day.

Nicely Done.

Do tell on the CB for the second one.

Nice looking pens. That's a really nice looking piece of sindora burl... Much prettier than the stuff I've turned.

Thank you! Custom centerbands are WAY above my current pay grade. I think that one of the pens is the Tycoon kit, and the other is a Baron. They use the same bushings (from JohnnyCNC), but the centerband is slightly different.

All the desert ironwood I've had before has been a darker brown color. This came out like a yellow labrador, so I think of it as my "shaggy dog" pen.

You've no doubt heard the stories about sindora burl being from some river bottom on the Vietnam-Cambodian border. This particular blank was cut from a piece of wood that was used in a flashback scene in First Blood. They beat Sylvester Stallone repeatedly with it (hence the fascinating swirls), until he snapped and caused extensive mayhem.
