So, I got hooked up with a local river logger, and scored a bunch of red tidewater cypress and curly pine. If you've ever seen Axe Men on History Channel, you might know Joe Collins from seasons 3 and 4... that's who I got the wood from. The wood has been submerged in the murky, black water of the Suwannee river in Florida for 100 years or more.

This is the first pen from that score, a gunmetal fancy slim in curly pine. The wood is darker than normal, because I used mineral spirits to wipe the sanded blank (no BLO in the shop). I think it makes it look much better, definitely richer looking. Gotta love the grain in the curly pine. 8 coats of med CA, 6 levels of MM and HUT plastic polish. This is the first of my new "Darkwater" line of pens.
