I briefly hijacked the family's Cricut Explore Air 2 cutting machine to try something a little different; steps:
Drew some original outline-type images and modified some existing vector-based images of a pair of dancers, rhinoceri, and crows in (free) Inkscape vector drawing software; saved in .svg format.
Down-scaled, then wirelessly uploaded the images to the cloud-based Cricut Design Space software.
Cut the shapes out of Duralar with the Cricut Explore 2 Air cutting machine, saving cut-out pieces along with the new stencils.
Airbrushed the stencils onto turned wood (rhinoceri) or white enamels barrels (dancers and crows), using Golden brand high flow liquid acrylics.
Hand and airbrushed on some addition detail and tone.
Airbrush-sealed the barrels with Createx gloss clear coat.
Finished the wood with CA.
Cast the dancer and crow tubes in Douglas Sturgess PR, turned, then finished them as usual.

I drew and then cut a bunch of additional mini-stencils for future pens.
Just getting started with this simple but versatile technique - more fun ahead.

Happy Saturday to all - Bob

Nice pens. My wife has a Cricut she uses for scrap booking.
Along with a ton of single die cutters for different shapes.

Thanks, Mal and Herb!

It's a fun little machine - and remarkably precise for tiny cuts on a variety of materials.
