In the process of making a batch of pens I cut the blanks a bit too long.

After drilling them I trimmed them to the right size then glued some up to see how they look.

After the first one or two I started cutting up more odd pieces and turning them into pens.

To keep with the mis-matched notion I used different colors on the metal bits.
