My parents came in town this week and my dad and I headed out to Jonathon's (Brooks803) house for his daughters first birthday. That was fun watching her eat cake and open presents.

When everyone left he took us out to the shop to play around. He taught my dad how to pour blanks (worked out slightly worse than when he taught me be he got a bottle stopper blank out of it!). Making a custom pen came up and we were off to the races. He walked me through it and started teaching me how to make a custom pen. In order to not mess up one of his awesome blanks we used some alumilite ones he had lying around. Day one "I" made most of the body and some of the nib. It was fun but its a lot to do!

Got my wife's permission to go back with my pops for say two and finish it up. Got there and Jason (SerenityWoodWorks) was there. Between him and Jonathon I got even further in the pen. A few issues with the cap happened and I learned a lot. Final problem almost had me losing it! I was doing final sanding polishing on the ebonite nib and it sheared off inside the collete chuck! Jonathon saved the day by donating a finished nib section and helping me with the cap a little.

I wish I remembered the taps dies and dimensions but it was a mini fountain pen and I do remember 9 and 10 mm taps and does being used but that's about it. Almost overwhelming amounts of information and skills involved but here is my first. C&C welcome.

Good thing he had that ol crappy blank laying there.

Wish my crappy blanks was that good. I don't think my good ones are that good.

Nice pen.

Not a crappy blank. Still a very nice blank. I just would have felt even worse had I ruined one of his. Even while learning.

Brooks has several boxes in his shop..:
Box 1: Customer orders "do not touch" (I still paw through)
Box 2: Orders for retail "do not touch" (see above)
Box 3: Blanks that dont meet his standards but still damn nice ( have at them)
Box 4: The box he hides from me...he thinks!

The pen is awesome Tyson! I'm glad you and your Dad got to come out. Hope they had a safe trip home today.

One detail that's nagging at me is the silver band on the section clashing on the gold clip and nib. Bring it over next time and we'll try and swap that lil band for a gold one. I think I can get it off of there.

Lol...You forgot the huge bin of wood blanks that everyone gets to pilfer along with the "Store" acrylics that are up for grabs.

Box 4 has most of the unseen goodies
