I have just recently had the opportunity to build a really nice pen. It was a ivory on silver components. The finials are Damascus steel. The box I purchased from another woodworker in the area. It is walnut with maple keys.
The 2nd box is the 1st I have built of this type. The box I built from Jatoba and F.O.W.P. (found on wood pile). The inside lip is Spanish cedar. The pen in the box is the one I won 2012 Intermediate with, made from African Blackwood, holly and aluminum. I made the inserts with silver cloth and hard styrofoam . Comments and critiques are welcome and thanks for looking.
