I got this piece of Curly Redheart during my visit to West Penn. It is pretty rare to get curl in this wood so I snapped up several pieces that I found. Cut 4 blanks out of a small turning square. The wood turns very easily. It has deep red color and the curl has good chatoyancy which is hard to see in the PIX. Get it into the sunlight and it has that nice moving glow.

I did screw up on this pen. When I pressed the clip assembly in the damn tube came loose. I hadn't used enough CA... and I felt it when I did it. I should have trusted my instinct. I got the section disassembled at the cost of the tube.

I used a spare tube and tried to reassemble it so the tube exactly lined up with the already turned and finished blank. That failed. I ended up having to use the barrel mill and shave off 1/16th of an inch of the tube. The CA set up before I could get it all aligned.

Eventually it came back together and I think it is solid now. Finished with 7 thin coats of lacquer, Ren waxed and buffed up.
