A lot of firsts for me here. First stabilized blank (black dyed curly poplar), first fountain pen (Black TI Jr. Gent 2 with a Bock nib) and first CA finish (straight CA).

Still working on the pictures and my camera. I had some problems getting the whole pen in focus, but you get the idea. The chatoyance in this poplar is crazy, there is a real 3D effect to this one, especially under a bright light.

Thanks for looking!

Thank you all for all the kind words. I think there was definitly some beginners' luck with the CA, I just tried another one and ended up having to turn off the CA, but hey, it's all part of the learning curve and the fun of penturning.

Did you buy the blank or dye it yourself?

Dan, I actually purchased the blank from Arizona Silhouette on a whim. It was already dyed and stabilized. They have some really nice curly stabilized blanks. I never would have thought that poplar would have that kind of pop. Nothing like the stuff I get from the Depot!

Thanks again,
Alex, off to practice and learn more!
