I just wanted to show one of my latest pens and one that I will most likely keep for my own use.
It is a Jr. Statesman II with 1940's vintage cream bakelite and inlaid turquoise rings.

Bakelite develops a patina over a number of years and this one was a butterscotch color when I started. As I turned it the butterscotch disappeared and the original cream color with white swirls appeared. Turning Bakelite always surprises you, usually pleasantly. The swirls are more evident in person than in the photo. The bottom photo shows the color more accurately.

Comments (both good and bad) are welcome.

Do some of the modern protective coatings preserve the original colour of the Bakerlite?[/QUOTE]


I'm sure that it took quite a while for the color to age. I used Ren Wax as a final step.
Hopefully it will slow the aging process.
I'll let you know for sure in another 50 years. :) :)
