Crazy Sassafras Pens

I made these two pens for some friends in southern Illinois about a year ago. One of these folks was nice enough to give some variety of native woods from this area, including walnut, oak, cypress, hickory, and sassafras. In return, I made these pens for them. The off-the-wall profiling I did on one of them was my early attempts to practice my shaping techniques. The sassafras wood cuts and shapes really well.

Some of my early pens had that crazy shaping. They still sold......
