I experimented with some old aniline dye and a piece of curly maple. The wood was left over from making small file handles 15 years ago. The walnut was from a pile of cut offs I bought when I was into scroll sawing. I kind of like last weeks salvage work.

Thanks guys! I found the maple in a bucket 'o junk parts. It was turned round but was just a hair over 9/16" x 3 1/2". I figured if I could get a 27/64 down it I could salvage a piece to try some aniline dye. The walnut was a drilling mishap that was way off center. That figured wood didn't like to have it's center drilled. I figured if I was careful I might be able to save it. Much CA was used to get that one turned as it put up quite a fight. It's always better to be luck than good, and I had a lucky day.
