An aside---Earth Day was originally started by a fellow I grew up with and was in my Scout Troup and Church. His name is Denis Hayes, and I believe he worked closely with a Senator at the time. We hail from Camas, WA and for many years the sustaining industry was a very large Paper Mill (now perhaps on the way out, although still active--once over 2,000 employees, now likely less than 600)---but if you're familiar with the Paper industry it's stinky and has been the cause of lots or pollution.
