One Curly Magnolia and the other Hard Maple from a lightening struck tree. Some very interesting colors in the Maple. Finished with wipe on poly.

Both kits are gold. I leave the blanks on the mandrel and apply a heavy coat with the lathe turning at slow speed. I leave the lathe running until the finish sets up(about 1/2 hour). Let it dry overnight. Lightly sand in the morning and apply a second coat. Let it dry during the day while at work and repeat in the evening. I don't do that many so the time it takes to finish a pen is not an issue. One of these days I will make a mandrel that I can load a dozen pen blanks on and do a batch finish.
