Nice cobs Gary, I have yet to turn one in two attempts. What kind of stain did you use? and is that a white one on the end? I bet Margie took the red one.....

Nice job of the color and the pens.
What did you use to tint them?
I've had good luck with magic marker and a "rainbow" effect.
When I try to get them solid teh pattern of the grain dissapears.

Do not tell anyone---I just used plain old food color.
The purple one was to dark--it's one of those two drops of this and 3 drops of that.
The blue on the right was to light.
I sure as heck ain't going to tell anyone--it may be just the color they like.
Anthony thanks for the link on getting the new color of acrylic.

I have only been turning pens for a couple of months. When I found this site I learned a lot about pens and found everyone very helpful. So I will always try to do the same if I can. Some of my post are just how I do something---does not mean it's the right way.
I am not just turning a corncob. I soak them in a polly hardner for a couple hours them let them dry for a couple of days.I start with cobs that are less than 12 % moisture content. This allows the cob to absorb the polly. I also perdrill a 7mm hole in the cob. This also helps the cob to soak up more.
I hope this is of some help.

I buy my cobs from Wallymart---pet food section.
It has been dried. You have to shell it yourself but that only takes a couple minutes. Plus the squirrels like the corn.
