On the pipe smokers' forums I am active in I showed of a retro fit job on a corn cob pipe. Also to get the guys drooling I included a photo of a pen I made.
This was turned between centers, no mandrel. When I got just proud of the bushings, I removed the bushings to move to sanding and finishing stages. I used calipers to get the fit to the components. This seems to be much more precise than bushings on a mandrel.
Kudos to CSUSA on the construction of this kit. Of particular importance to me is a strong clip. My job requires a lot of movement and lesser clips pull out of pocket rather easily. This will replace a butternut Clicker as my everyday work pen.
Finished using Mylands 3 Step process.
BTW, this may get me blacklisted from CSUSA, but in a pinch, this pen makes a suitable pipe tamper.
