Thsi one is made from Charcoal and Allumilite. It was a bit messy but came out OK. CA finish.

Mickey, this is the process I followed:
Drilling the blank - just make sure the bit is sharp and clear shavings in order to avoid heat build up.
Turning - Not sure if you have turned Allumilite before but it turns easier bec it is not hard and brittle like PR. When I was about two thirds done turning I put some thin CA on the coal and let it soak in, this did two things: it hardened the coal to about the same consistency as the Allumilite and it sealed the coal dust preventing it from staining the white allumilite when sanding.
Sanding - I dry sanded it to 12000 MM then started with a CA finish. I built about 3 coats sanded again up to 12000 MM and finally some plastic polish.

Yea, I guess heat build up would be a concern. I could see it now, you make the blank and after you drill, it gets put aside to turn. When you grab the blank, it is grey and hot.[:D]
