Closed end pens for showing wood

Hi all,
I had a few blanks of what I consider rare and very attractive wood, so I decided to made double closed end pen. I used as little as possible from Jr Gents kits. When they are caped, you will agree I hope: metallic parts do not disturb the eye... :biggrin:

First are a HRB together with a bicolor African blackwood.
Second is a stunning (at least to my eyes) black and white ebony from Laos.

I'm making my first closed end item (a razor handle) right now, but have been wanting to do closed end pens for a while. These are great inspiration!
Would you mind sharing how you attached these on the lathe? Did you use a closed end mandrel, or a normal mandrel modified to hold closed end? Or something else.
