Why not flip the pen and use the burnt end as the body and the band would blend with the seam. Sounds obvious but is there a reason for not doing it that way?

Looks good Dale. Looks like you've got the grain lined up which can be a challenge at times. I like it better having the ash on the cap end, like you have made it.. The first few I made I had the ash end as the body and it seemed a little odd that way. Congrats
