This is my third corn cob pen and each one has been a unique treat. I especially like the way the bold design of the Spartan pen kit compliments the bold pattern of the corn cob. To reduce tear out I used a round carbide cutter and light passes. I also saturated the stabilized corn cob with Thin CA glue before making the final passes then used Boiled Linseed Oil and medium Stick Fast CA glue to finish. There are different methods for applying CA glue, I ascribe to the method of applying one-two drops of BLO on a paper shop towel then squirting three-four drops of medium CA glue on top of that and applying it rapidly along the length of the blank with the lathe on. The finisih will dull and then will turn glossy after the CA glue heats and gets burnished by the hardened CA glue on the paper towel. Repeat until you've added enough coats to suit your taste. Sometimes I spray with activator between coats.
