Wrote them a letter telling them that my dad had served on her while a marine just before Korea started and was wondering if I could get some pieces since they were re-teaking the entire ship.

The lady sent me a box of offcuts and asked if I'd send her a pen made from it - no problem! Unfortunately, the last time I talked to her all of the offcuts are now gone. That's why I'm just using them for trim pieces, scallops, etc. - they'll last much longer...
