...or AKA a design opportunity arises. Had five of these purple/white blanks. The LOML cabbaged the first one so I wanted to make another for show at the craft shop. I was drilling the lower barrel and heard a cracking sound. Took the barrel out of vice and the side had popped out of the nib end leaving a gap of about 1/2". Ah ha a design "change" opportunity just raise its head. Took it to the band saw and cut the broken area off, stuck a tub in it and milled the broken end square then install(glued) a tube flush with other end leaving the other end of the tube protruding out. Cut 5/8" piece off of African black wood blank, drilled it and squared it like I did the broken blank then glued it onto the protruding tube and presto I am back in business. Everything after that was SOP. I am however, a little disappointed in the black-wood it turned out to be more chocolate then black.

Stats:
Cast Blank = PR w/Purple & White Peral Ex powder colorant
Wood Section = African Blackwood
Finish(Wood) = Several coats of CA
Finish(all) = MM to 12000 then light coat of wax(mostly for feel)
Hardware = Chrome SlimLine.
