Picked up my 2nd shipment from PSI just before noon. Came home after work to start working on the CF blank. I was extremely careful when turning down the blank. But it turned easy and without any problem.

Really like the looks of it, but rather wasteful of the more expensive blank on this pen style turning down from 0.75" to 0.445".

This is for a buddy at work. He picked the style and blanks (the other one is the buffalo horn).

That is a very nice pen. I really like that kit and the blank matches the kit very well. Also, as far as I can tell, the blank diameter matches perfectly with the pen hardware. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks guys.

Here's the blank before turning.

Just turned the Buffalo Horn blank. It has this aged look that I like.

This 2 blanks took quite a while to turn, as compared to my earlier acrylic blanks.

To finish off, I turned another CF blank to make another with the Rollester gunmetal. Just when I was about to start sanding and polishing it, I notice how nice the blank look at this stage. So I clean it off with some water and press in the kit. Took a few pics and sent to the customer that ordered the CF pen.

My customer loves it! He met me at my family dinner place where we're celebrating my dad's birthday to pick it up.

Here is how the unfinished matte blank looks like:

He just sent me this:

He sent me a text asking if I can make the plating of the kit matte too... lol... anyone has any idea how to do that? I looked at PSI's site and the closest is satin finished. But it has the plastic look to it which my customer dislike. Appreciate any information there.

Kyle

Those look great.
Any issues cutting that blank? Any tips you could give? How did you square the ends up?

The CF blanks from PSI are easy to work with. I cut the blank to rough size on the bandsaw using the brass tube that came with the pen kit as a gauge. Next I turn the blank on the mandrel to round it off and to slightly less than 20mm in diameter to fit into the bore of my 4 jaw scroll chuck. Then I chuck the rounded blank into the 4 jaw chuck with a little overhang to face off the blank. My thought was, if the OD was turned using the ID as reference, using the OD now to square the ends should get me very close to square.

After that, put it back on the mandrel and continue turning.

No chipping encountered with the 2 CF blanks I received. Pretty well made blanks.
