Canadian Maple Leaf on JR Statesman

Here is a commission piece for a customer. Question: He wants it engraved with his name - because of the maple leaf location the engraving will be on the barrel of the pen - so do you engrave it so the name can be read when the cap is on (picture 2) or so it can be read when writing (picture 1)? If you place it for picture 1 should the engravering be seen with the cap on since it would appear backwards?

I would see if he would settle for his initials in the red part of the cap or in the leaf.
