Hey all,

Finally finished my only pen for the month. Turned out pretty well until the cap cracked upon assembly and I tried to fill it with CA. Ended up getting CA all over the cap (and my fingers). Any thoughts on how to clean it up without disassembly? I tried buffing a bit without compound, but it's still a bit messy.

Any pointers are appreciated!

Disassemble and refinish.

Acetone is a solvent for CA but it is not precise, and if you used an acetone soluable finish it will disolve it.

You will move from one kind of mess to a worse one.

Off the pen, the hardware will clean up easier.

And you can clean out the crud in the pen barrel that was probably the cause of the crack.

A tiny bit of Loctite or similar will be sure to hold the fittings on reassembly.

Thanks, Ken (and others). I don't have a disassembly kit so I ended up using a knife to scrape off the ridges of CA and then buffed it out. Looks decent if you don't inspect too closely. It's a gift for a friend, not selling it, so I'm less worried about it being perfect.
