Some of you know that I used to be an Executive Chef, I still cook one night a week in a local BBQ joint that my BIL runs..When I went in this week I noticed that they had a new pile of wood for the smoker..We usualy smoke with apple wood but I could see that this wasn't apple, The first chunk that I picked up was spalted maple, when I turned it over, I saw that it had some burl on one side of it..That piece went into the van and I turned this gun metal Euro from it tonigt.

Spalted maple burl, gun metal 7mm Euro,CA finish

Yum, looks almost edible.

There is an odd line at the nib of the first one, almost like an oops band.

Awesome! I really like the burl & cream. I have a large rubbermaid tote that's overflowing with burl cap edges (mostly Australian stuff) that I'm anxious to start casting. I'm definitely going to be making some with the cream colored alumilite. Thanks for the inspiration.
