Buckeye Burl - Getting Back Into the Shop

Some stabilized buckeye burl. No clue what the wood in the middle segment is. Any help there would be appreciated. it came in a grab bag but was too thin to make a pen out of.

I am no good at identifying wood, but this doesn't have any pores that I could see and it wasn't splintery. Probably not wenge. Super hard though.

Left kit is Jr. Gent II. Right is magnetic vertex.
