Tried a different cut for the inserts because the last pen I did blew up twice and I had to redo it. This cut was much more stable and the results came out really cool.

Very nice !!!

Just to clarify ... what is the "different cut" method that you now use. . You probably did not post the ones that blew up, so it would be nice to know what the difference is now.

So the first time I ended up cutting the whole blank at once. I cut it in a "wavy" pattern then rotated once and did another cut exactly the same. Where as the second time I did both cuts on the same side in the pattern in the pic. So it's a sort of Celtic cut. I ended up using a large socket for the pattern.
