Found some old bowling alley lanes that have been in storage for many years ... lots of old maple.
On the ends of some of the sections were black lines made of 5/8 square by 42" long material. I think it is some sort of hard rubber and it is laminated with strips instead of being a solid piece.
Anyhow ... when cut and polished it looks a lot like wood.
I will try to post a photo but the detail is very light but to the eye looks fantastic.

Anyone else encountered such a material?

Sorry I can't help with the Black material, but agree it could well be Ebonite.
Does it smell "rubbery" when you turn it?
