This is #3 of 3 finished tonight. Bocote and figured maple slimline.

Maybe I missed something. Is the addition of Bocote as desing element or an "oops" band. It looks good but I'm wondering why only ot the top?

I like the grooving. Subtle that adds character.

Thanks for all the good comments. Yes the bocote is an oops band. The maple on that end chipped out before it was finished. The band was added and I think really added some character to the pen. I believe I'll be doing some like this on purpose instead of just when I mess up. I kinda like it myself.
