Thought I'd try something different. I purchased a bunch of bobbin spindles on eBay from a knitting company that was founded in New York in 1897 and decided to try making them into pens.
The kit is an Artisan Desk Pen kit from CSUSA. The pen is a little awkward with the weight at the top when you're writing, but it's not too bad. I didn't want to do too much to the bobbin because of it's history. I sprayed the bobbin with polyurethane before I did any work on it. I'll see how they do at the next show.
Here's a little write up of the origin of the bobbin: The bobbin spindle comes from the Faith Mills, in Averill Park, NY. The company, Faith Knitting Company was founded in 1897 by Willaim Mahony and Peter McCarthy. These spindles are circa mid to late 1910's.
Also shown is a picture of the mill in action. What do you think?
C & C welcome.
