I got a special order last week for these 2 curly maple Designer pens
in blue. Ok, no big deal, I've seen blue pen blanks I'll just order a couple.
After turning about 1/4-1/2 inch off the blanks, there is hardly any
color left on either blank. I was irritated and worried at the same time, What to do?
A little food coloring and wa la!!! blue curly maple
pens!! Delivered them to work last night and got an order for 3 more!!!
I like those kind of orders! I know it was discovered a long time ago
but I've been turning less than a year and was proud of myself for figuring it out by myself.

Very nice pens. Some of the other species are better for allowing the color to penetrate all the way through the blank. The dyed maples always have more color on the surface than in the middle.
