I read somewhere that you could bleach wenge!!!..So I had to give it try. I finished turning the blank and sanded to 400 grit. I soaked the blank in bleach for a couple of hours, let it dry, then I soaked it in acetone from about an hour. After I did that I let it sit for a while and then put a ca finish on it. This one was for my wife who just had to have a pen made out of wenge. Let me know what you think? It makes me wonder what else can you bleach?

It looks really great. You can bleach anything pourous, like red oak, Wenge, Sumac, etc and get results that go all the way through. It does affect the structural integrity of the wood because it damages the fibers, but you don't need structural integrity for a pen like you do a table or a house.
