Jonathan: I havn't got a clue. I purchased the blank from Penn State Industries. Thats what they sent me....I wish I knew what that other wood is , as it is unique! If anyone here knows, I'd appreciate they post it here..Thanks..Oscar

it looks like you got some 2 tone blackwood from psi (part# WXPR04S).
i believe the lighter color wood is the sapwood of the tree.

pen looks great.

That's exatly what it is .......a very nice blank of both heartwood and sapwood. I'd rather turn one like that than pure heartwood. IMHO all heartwood Blackwood is only good for one thing...accents....lol
BTW beautiful pen!! And my favorite kit!

Thanks for the feedback! The tip has a reflection on as it is gold plated (and I am a lousy photographer) ..I am astounded that the heartwood and the sapwood can have that much difference.....Thanks for all the imput,,,OSCAR
