No longer confused....
Going over this project has been filled with disappointments on things like selection of materials to use. For example the beautiful work we have seen from Toni; finding a plating match is well seriously restrictive. The ideal material is unusable as thickness and suitability is not there. Man made materials does not even remotely come close as they do not look right.

Example of what would be a superb match for pen hardware.

This is black lip mother of pearl.

On talking with a good number of people I came to the conclusion that many just settles for 'silver' be it rhodium, chrome or what not. That to does not seem to go.

Where the black Ti seemed to go better than rose gold, 10k, rhodium.

While looking I decided to do some testing with some creative materials.

Again no dice.

Then I looked at Rhodium vs Black Ti

From this I see the black Ti going better than rhodium. So the first of the set is a pencil.

I do spent lots of time in agony over things like plating, trim, design and the like. Because often with my colorblindness problems things just does not look well.

Also I will try to cut down on the number of photo's, just for Dan26 :)

Satin silver, satin chrome or even trivalent chrome would have been also nice.
But I like the satin finishes on these as they do not distract from the blank.

But I must say that your black Ti is probebly what I would have picked also. Very nice match.

I also, am a perfectionist and know your pain in matching blanks to kit/finish.

What's wrong with your Black Ti? It looks tarnished? or is it just my eyes?

I would, if i were to make something very special, would use solid Silver from the silver guy here on IAP. He has reasonable priced sets for the slimline. I would not try to match the hardware so that it blends in or is not noticeable. I think the beholder should revel in the beauty of the blank and the hardware together. Just my thoughts. Good luck with it. Carl

Very good eye there. That pencil kit is about 4-5 years old. I was told the pencil kits back then were much better quality than they are now so I used this one. Also there are some fingerprint smudges on it as well. Black Ti does shift over the years some.

I just noticed it because I also have some black Ti and gold Ti from Berea that turned tarnished on me. It looks like its tarnished under the protective coating? Can't sell these anymore!

Just have to say again that Toni's blanks are amazing.

One of the future posts that I plan on making is difference in black ti plating. I have noticed there seems to be something like 4-5 different types of 'black ti'

Knowing the quality of Toni's work, my first choise would have been sterling silver, 2ed pewter, 3ed any satin finish, 4th pearl, 5th gold to pick up the flower centers. Black is a good choise for the colors of the pen, but not to feminine looking for the rose pattern or the slimline pen kit you added. Just my opinion. Jim S
